Participating in the Cycled Central Air Conditioning program allows you to save money and conserve energy. The cycled air conditioning program is your opportunity to take advantage of the lower electric rate, or a credit in July, August and September, while still keeping your home cool and comfortable. High efficiency central air conditioners save you money over the life of the system by using less electricity to cool your home. This efficiency also reduces electrical demand for Stearns Electric Association and is designed to control peak electrical demand during hot weather.

How is works

If you sign up, Stearns Electric will install and activate a small radio receiver near your air conditioner that cycles the central air on and off at 15-minute intervals during the peak energy demand days. Control times may be as many as 10-15 days per year and usually occur in the late afternoons and early evenings. Because your furnace fan continues to circulate cool air, most people don't notice that the air conditioner is being cycled.

If you sign up, a licensed electrical installer will do the installation at no cost to you. A radio receiver will be installed near the condensing unit of your air conditioner. The installation takes a few minutes and you don't even have to be home.
 

How to sign-up

1.  Enroll in the program online or call customer service at 320.259.6601or 800.448.1737.

2.  Stearns Electric will arrange for the radio receiver to be installed and inspected.

*Members will receive a $7.50 credit on each of their July, August and September bills. Customer agrees to remain on the Cycled A/C program for a minimum of one cooling season.
