Residential/Farm: Programs

• Generator must be 50 kW or larger.
• Generator backup systems may be interrupted for up to 10 continuous hours on a given day.
• The generator for this program must be permanently mounted and be capable of supplying the entire electric load supplied by Stearns Electric Association.
• The generator must have a fuel supply capable of supplying 10 hours of continuous run for the generator. 
• The interconnection between power supplies must have an automatic transfer switch and must prevent line voltage feedback.
• The transfer equipment must operate by remote initialization through the use of a radio receiver furnished by Stearns Electric Association. This radio receiver must be wired to the line side of the transfer switch.
• The member must provide at their expense, a phone line to the meter socket. This line may be used for gathering meter readings, controlling data and/or to initiate controlling (does not need to be a special phone line). Ask our energy experts about the Generator Backup Program through Stearns Electric Association. 
• Each failure of the generator during peak control time as defined in our agreement shall allow Stearns Electric Association to assess applicable rate penalties in accordance with the current rate schedule.
• A fuel credit may be reimbursed to a customer in the event generators are run for more than 80 hours in a rate year. Fuel cost reimbursement will be based on kWh generated past the 80 hour limit and fuel cost reimbursement will be determined by Great River Energy; Stearns Electric Association’s power provider.
