2008 Program Guide

Dual Fuel Heating
Heat your home for less with Dual Fuel.

To qualify for Dual Fuel you must have two sources of heat; one electric and one alternative source. The electric heat is your primary heating source and is supplemented during peak demand periods with the alternative heat source - such as natural gas, propane or fuel oil.

  • Energy Wise® rate of 4.2 cents per kWh
  • 9 kW electric heat minimum to qualify for program
  • Metering system and radio receiver required
  • All electric heat requires a backup heating system

Heat Pumps
Heat your home for less with a Heat Pump and our Dual Fuel program.

When participating in the Energy Wise® Dual Fuel program with your air source heat pump or ground source heat pump, your heating and cooling may be controlled during peak demand periods.

Storage Heating
This program helps conserve energy by charging your heating system during off-peak hours when electric costs are lowest. From 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day your Storage Heating System will charge. This heat will then heat your home all day long.

  • 9 kW electric heat minimum to qualify for program
  • Metering system and radio receiver required
  • Room storage, slab storage, and whole house storage furnaces qualify

Stored Water Heating
This program conserves energy by heating your water during off-peak hours when electric costs are lowest. For example, on weekdays your water heater will heat between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. and on weekends between 11 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Cycled Central Air Conditioning
Save money and energy with Stearns Electric Association's Cycled Central Air Conditioning program and cut your air conditioning costs in half!

This program conserves energy by cycling central air conditioners, 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off when there is a peak demand for electricity. These peak demands usually occur on the hottest days of the summer, in the late afternoon. The rest of the day your air conditioner operates as normal.

Farm Irrigation System

  • Any system installed with a 10 horsepower or larger pump are required to participate for a minimum of one irrigation season
  • Annual fixed charge of $240 per year
  • Monthly demand charge of $3.20 per kW
  • Energy Charge of 5.7 cents per kWh
  • Interruption of system not to exceed more than (1) 5 hr. period within a 24 hour day and re-energized by 10 p.m.

Generator Backup
      Metered - Single Phase System

  • Energy rate of 6.3 cents per kWh
  • $40 monthly fixed charge
  • Minimum load requirement of 50 kW

Metered- Three Phase System

  • Energy rate of 3.9 cents per kWh
  • $5.30 per kW monthly demand charge
  • $12 per kW monthly coincidental demand charge
  • Fail to control demand penalty of additional $5
  • $65 monthly fixed charge
  • Minimum load requirement of 50 kW

Additional information:

  • Member is responsible for all installation costs and the costs of equipment not furnished by Stearns Electric unless so stated.
  • Stearns Electric will provide the radio receiver, current transformer (CT) meter socket, meter, and the current transformer enclosure.
  • A Stearns Electric technician must check out your system and determine your equipment to be installed properly for our programs before the Energy Wise meter will be installed and you begin to receive the reduced Energy Wise rate.
  • Member must sign and return the Energy Wise Agreement before the technician's appointment is scheduled.
  • The Energy Wise rate is subject to change without notice.

    Stearns Electric Association requirements must be met in order to qualify for these programs.
