Wholesale Power

Stearns Electric Association purchases and distributes power from its wholesale suppliers, Great River Energy and the Western Area Power Administration. In 2019, 64.3% of every dollar collected by Stearns Electric Association was used to purchase wholesale power.


Great River Energy is a not-for-profit electricity provider owned by 27 distribution cooperatives (including Stearns Electric) in Minnesota and Wisconsin which generates and transmits electricity. Great River Energy provides wholesale electric service to its member-owners who distribute electricity to approximately 660,000 member consumers – or about 1.7 million people.
