From our Co-op to the Ballot Box

Electric cooperatives were built on a simple idea: the people served by the co-op should have a say in how it runs. From electing directors to voting at the Annual Meeting, democratic member control is one of the principles that sets cooperatives apart.

That same spirit carries beyond the co-op. The officials you elect at every level of government shape the policies that determine whether your power stays affordable and reliable. When you vote, you help shape the policies that affect our communities.

America’s electric cooperatives encourage civic engagement through Co-ops Vote, a nonpartisan program that helps members understand the issues and get to the polls. It does not endorse candidates or parties. Its message reflects a value co-ops have held for generations: democracy works best when people take part.

As you make your plan to vote, keep these Minnesota dates in mind for the 2026 General Election:

• Early voting begins: September 18, 2026
• Voter registration deadline: October 13, 2026 (same-day registration is available on Election Day)
• Election Day: Tuesday, November 3, 2026, with polls open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

To check your registration, register to vote, find your polling place or view a sample ballot, visit the Minnesota Secretary of State’s website at mnvotes.gov.
