MISO Declares Maximum Generation Event
January 24, 2026
Due to cold temperatures impacting the region and elevated prices for energy, the regional energy transmission entity, Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO), declared a Maximum Generation Event. Stearns Electric is asking all members to conserve energy wherever possible this weekend.
You can help by:
- Avoiding the use of large appliances such as ovens, clothes dryers and dishwashers during this time.
- Shutting off non-essential lights.
- Opening your blinds and/or curtains.
- Turning your thermostat down by three to five degrees.
- Using ceiling fans (running clockwise) to lower rising heat
- Shutting off space heaters.
As a not-for-profit cooperative, our costs are shared amongst our membership. We are doing our part to manage the sub-zero temps this weekend while maintaining reliability; we ask you to help us by minimizing your electric usage.
Members enrolled in EnergyWise® load control programs (i.e., Dual Fuel Heating, Stored Water Heating, Peak Shave (Interruptible) Water Heating) should anticipate load control events over the next several days, which may include the weekend.
