The Importance of Load Management Programs
Summer 2026
When summer heats up, demand for energy increases. Increased energy demand increases the pressure on the power grid, not only from a capacity standpoint, but from a cost standpoint, too.
Stearns Electric works with our wholesale power provider to help balance electricity usage across our distribution system, especially during peak demand periods. Enrollment in our EnergyWise® programs (Peak Shave Water Heating, Cycled Air Conditioning, Interruptible Irrigation, etc.) is a big reason why we can keep local power reliable and affordable, even when the thermometer, and the power market, hits extremes.
When you participate, you help lower system-wide energy demand, which supports a high load factor and reduces costs for everyone.
Plus, you receive credits to your monthly bill or pay a reduced price for energy depending on what program(s) you are enrolled in.
Managing the power grid during extreme temperatures is no easy feat. If you are enrolled in an energy-saving program, thank you! Your participation is the reason we can keep local power reliable and affordable.
